We arrive at Mugello after 3 long weeks of stop but still with the charge of the victory at Le Mans. The desire to get back on the bike was so much and doing it in front of the Mugello crowd puts a very special charge. In P1 and ?2 I lapped well, got direct access to Q2 where I suffered a little bit in the dry lap and closed with a P/ on the grid.
For the Sprint I am loaded. I get off to a good start, and after a few turns I go right on the attack. I move up positions, see Pecco in front and try to catch him. I come close, but in some parts of the track Pecco was really uncatchable. I close with a nice P2 that gasses me for Sunday’s race.
In the warm up the race pace is very good. The premise to do well is there but in the race things change. We still don’t really know why, but already from the third corner I started to suffer and I could see that I was going to struggle for the whole race: I didn’t have confidence on the bike, I lost more and more confidence as the laps went by, I couldn’t do anything and I was going really slow. I expected to do more, but I had to survive and we brought home some points, even though it’s not what we wanted. I took a lot of risks, I didn’t overtake, it was a difficult race and I’m really disappointed. But now comes the German GP in a little while to get going again
