{"id":3370,"date":"2025-10-20T09:40:42","date_gmt":"2025-10-20T07:40:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/simplythebez.com\/?p=3370"},"modified":"2025-10-20T09:41:56","modified_gmt":"2025-10-20T07:41:56","slug":"phillip-island-a-weekend-to-remember","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/simplythebez.com\/en\/phillip-island-a-weekend-to-remember\/","title":{"rendered":"Phillip Island: a Weekend to Remember"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"180\" data-end=\"225\">It was a great weekend at <strong data-start=\"206\" data-end=\"224\">Phillip Island<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"227\" data-end=\"328\">We started off on the right foot in <strong data-start=\"263\" data-end=\"280\">Free Practice<\/strong>, and just <strong data-start=\"291\" data-end=\"313\">missed out on pole<\/strong> in qualifying.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"330\" data-end=\"823\">In the <strong data-start=\"337\" data-end=\"347\">Sprint<\/strong>, I got off to a decent start \u2014 in the opening corners I passed a couple of riders and found myself chasing <strong data-start=\"455\" data-end=\"468\">Fernandez<\/strong>.<br data-start=\"469\" data-end=\"472\" \/>It wasn\u2019t easy to stay with him \u2014 he was flying.<br data-start=\"520\" data-end=\"523\" \/>At my first attempt to overtake, I went a bit wide, but after a few laps I closed the gap and finally managed to pass him.<br data-start=\"645\" data-end=\"648\" \/><strong data-start=\"648\" data-end=\"654\">P1<\/strong>, my <strong data-start=\"659\" data-end=\"692\">fourth Sprint podium in a row<\/strong>.<br data-start=\"693\" data-end=\"696\" \/>The feeling was great, and I knew I could have a strong race on Sunday \u2014 <strong data-start=\"769\" data-end=\"807\">despite the two long lap penalties<\/strong> I had to serve.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"825\" data-end=\"1099\">During FP I practiced the long laps \u2014 they\u2019re tricky, really tight, and I knew they\u2019d cost me <strong data-start=\"919\" data-end=\"947\">over two seconds per lap<\/strong>.<br data-start=\"948\" data-end=\"951\" \/>So the strategy was simple: <strong data-start=\"979\" data-end=\"1000\">get a great start<\/strong>, push hard in the first laps, and try to build a small gap to avoid getting swallowed by the pack.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1101\" data-end=\"1300\"><strong data-start=\"1101\" data-end=\"1126\">I got a great launch.<\/strong><br data-start=\"1126\" data-end=\"1129\" \/>I managed to serve the first long lap while <strong data-start=\"1173\" data-end=\"1211\">still staying with the front group<\/strong>.<br data-start=\"1212\" data-end=\"1215\" \/>The second one dropped me back a bit, but I had the time \u2014 and the pace \u2014 to recover.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1302\" data-end=\"1518\">I climbed back to <strong data-start=\"1320\" data-end=\"1326\">P4<\/strong>, which honestly felt like the best I could do.<br data-start=\"1373\" data-end=\"1376\" \/>But then I saw <strong data-start=\"1391\" data-end=\"1407\">Alex Marquez<\/strong> ahead, less than two seconds away, clearly struggling.<br data-start=\"1462\" data-end=\"1465\" \/>I gave it everything, caught him, <strong data-start=\"1499\" data-end=\"1517\">and passed him<\/strong>\u2026<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1520\" data-end=\"1560\"><strong data-start=\"1520\" data-end=\"1560\">A podium that really tastes amazing.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1562\" data-end=\"1693\">I\u2019m fired up for <strong data-start=\"1579\" data-end=\"1591\">Malaysia<\/strong> now \u2014 and I just hope I can keep riding like this, because I\u2019m honestly <strong data-start=\"1664\" data-end=\"1692\">having an absolute blast<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It was a great weekend at Phillip Island.
