{"id":3326,"date":"2025-08-18T15:37:33","date_gmt":"2025-08-18T13:37:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/simplythebez.com\/austria-pole-bagarre-e-un-podio-che-vale-doppio\/"},"modified":"2025-08-18T15:48:06","modified_gmt":"2025-08-18T13:48:06","slug":"austria-pole-bagarre-e-un-podio-che-vale-doppio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/simplythebez.com\/en\/austria-pole-bagarre-e-un-podio-che-vale-doppio\/","title":{"rendered":"Austria: pole position, battles, and a podium that means double"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"196\" data-end=\"360\">If someone had told me on Friday after FP that I\u2019d take <strong data-start=\"252\" data-end=\"260\">pole<\/strong>, then finish <strong data-start=\"274\" data-end=\"294\">P4 in the Sprint<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"299\" data-end=\"328\">on the podium in the race<\/strong>, I\u2019d have said they were crazy.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"362\" data-end=\"764\">I knew that P18 in the afternoon was mostly down to a few issues that stopped us from doing a proper time attack \u2014 the base was there, but I also knew that <strong data-start=\"518\" data-end=\"563\">Austria has always been tough for Aprilia<\/strong>.<br data-start=\"564\" data-end=\"567\" \/>We got our heads down and worked late into the evening.<br data-start=\"622\" data-end=\"625\" \/>And I\u2019ve got to thank <strong data-start=\"647\" data-end=\"663\">Vale (Rossi)<\/strong> too \u2014 he gave me a lot of advice and helped me find the right direction. That made a big difference.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"766\" data-end=\"1075\">On Saturday I went well in Q1, and then in Q2 I nailed <strong data-start=\"821\" data-end=\"846\">an almost perfect lap<\/strong>.<br data-start=\"847\" data-end=\"850\" \/><strong data-start=\"850\" data-end=\"868\">Pole position!<\/strong><br data-start=\"868\" data-end=\"871\" \/>Totally unexpected, especially considering that qualifying has always been a bit of a weak point for us.<br data-start=\"975\" data-end=\"978\" \/>But we\u2019ve been working hard on it in the last few races, and <strong data-start=\"1039\" data-end=\"1074\">the results are finally showing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1077\" data-end=\"1340\">I knew I\u2019d struggle a bit in the Sprint to keep up with the Ducati pace.<br data-start=\"1149\" data-end=\"1152\" \/>I fought for the podium, but I couldn\u2019t quite catch Acosta on the KTM and finished <strong data-start=\"1235\" data-end=\"1241\">P4<\/strong>.<br data-start=\"1242\" data-end=\"1245\" \/>Still happy, especially because I was fast in the warm-up and felt confident going into Sunday.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1342\" data-end=\"1390\">Race day: leading early, then the real fight<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1392\" data-end=\"1741\">Lights out. I take the lead, pushing hard \u2014 <strong data-start=\"1436\" data-end=\"1460\">the bike feels great<\/strong>.<br data-start=\"1461\" data-end=\"1464\" \/>I manage to keep Marc (Marquez) about half a second behind me, but then I run into a small issue and he catches up.<br data-start=\"1579\" data-end=\"1582\" \/>I fight back, retake the lead for a moment \u2014 proper battle.<br data-start=\"1641\" data-end=\"1644\" \/>Then he gets back in front, and I can\u2019t stick with his pace \u2014 he had that little something extra.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1743\" data-end=\"1885\">Then <strong data-start=\"1748\" data-end=\"1769\">Ferm\u00edn (Aldeguer)<\/strong> arrives like a rocket and passes me.<br data-start=\"1806\" data-end=\"1809\" \/>I hold onto <strong data-start=\"1821\" data-end=\"1836\">third place<\/strong> and bring it home. <strong data-start=\"1856\" data-end=\"1885\">Great race, great podium.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1887\" data-end=\"2066\">People told me not to expect too much here in Austria, because Aprilia has historically struggled on this track.<br data-start=\"1999\" data-end=\"2002\" \/>Well\u2026 I\u2019d say it <strong data-start=\"2019\" data-end=\"2065\">turned out way better than anyone expected<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2068\" data-end=\"2317\">I\u2019m happy, especially because <strong data-start=\"2098\" data-end=\"2147\">we bounced back strong after the summer break<\/strong>.<br data-start=\"2148\" data-end=\"2151\" \/>And now we go straight into the next one: <strong data-start=\"2193\" data-end=\"2233\">next weekend we\u2019re racing in Hungary<\/strong>, a brand-new track for all of us.<br data-start=\"2267\" data-end=\"2270\" \/>Honestly, no one really knows what to expect<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2319\" data-end=\"2333\">See you there!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If someone had told me on Friday after FP that I\u2019d take pole, then finish P4 in the Sprint and on the podium in the race, I\u2019d have said they were crazy.
